LOST VALUE
Photo-essays are made to evoke emotions in the viewer. The photographs are usually concise, direct and are either paired with a small caption or full texts. Initially starting as a photo-essay, the animation below introduces the theme of over-consumption that stealthily leads to the narrative’s economic demise.
BEING HEARD, SEEN & WATCHED
I drew a few themes from the project as a starting point to create a sequence that illustrated my programme, narrative and site. These themes were: being monitored, communication between people and being afraid. By distorting the photographs, inspired by Aldo Tolino’s ‘Crumbled Faces’, certain aspects of the photograph are emphasised.
BEING HEARD focuses on the way people communicate with each other. For example, certain gestures and facial expression determines whether someone is whispering or shouting.
BEING SEEN focuses on those distortions in relation of being seen by others without being noticed.
BEING WATCHED  - the use of frames evoke feelings of fear and censorship
